Sony Santa Monica has finally confirmed the end of PASBAR DLC. To be honest, I'm glad that they did this. It's a little annoying waiting every month to see if any new characters or stages have been announced, so its good to have closure. But of course I'm disappointed at the end of DLC-the game had a lot of DLC potential so its a shame to see it end like this. Also it looks like the game would have been better off in hands of Superbot. Two Superbot employees "leaked" a new menu design and two stages: one of which was based on Journey and the other on Gravity Rush. I think their menu design looks way better than the current menu design.
And the updated Superbot one.
The Gravity Rush stage
And the Journey stage.
Seeing all of this makes me think, what if? What if Sony didn't drop Superbot, what if they just let them to continue to work with their game? The results would have been better I can assume since they made the game, but maybe in some other universe we're getting more DLC for PASBAR from Superbot, I just wonder... The DLC probably ended due to the poor sales of Issac Clarke and Zeus. I didn't expect this batch of characters to be successful ( I didn't buy them due to a combination of no interest and cash) but they are cool characters no one asked for. Characters that people did ask for were Dart and Abe, who were ironically cancelled. That what Sony Santa Monica should have given us in the first place, not these guys if they wanted successful sales in DLC. In some cases nostalgia does beat out relevance, and this is one of those few cases.
Does this mean All-Stars is dead? It all depends on who your asking. Sony Santa Monica said they would support the servers for online gameplay and I still play it competitively, so do some of my friends online ,but if your gonna drop the game because of the end of DLC that's your choice. I dunno if it was the meter build-up system, the okay-ish launch character list, poor advertisement on Sony's part or the boring singleplayer mode that sealed All-Star's fate. All I know is I had a good time with playstation all-stars and I feel it was worth that 60 dollars.
I just hope that playstation all-stars and these developers have a future.
